WHS boys’ relay tops all; Croteau 2nd

FITCHBURG – The Westfield High School boys’ 4×100 relay team keeps running, and running, and running on the boys’ track and field circuit.
Westfield’s team of Jordino Oquando, Max Cravet, Alex Martin, and Charlie Newman continued its postseason dominance, winning the 4×100 relay for the second straight week. The Bombers won the race in 43.76, edging out Wachusett (44.14) at Monday’s Central/West Division 1 meet at Fitchburg State University.
It was a bit of improvement for Westfield’s 4×100 relay team, which won last week’s divisional with a time of 44.08.
Westfield senior Blake Croteau had the Bombers’ second best-finish, finishing runner-up in the two-mile (9:29.31). Wachusett’s Colin Bennie won the event in 9:26.21. Bombers’ Ben Doiran was eighth in 10:00.48.
Other top finishers for Westfield included: Nick Jacques in the 400 meter dash (10th, 53.02), Cheyenne Grabiec in the 800 meter run (13th, 2:04.63), and the team’s 4×100 relay team (16th, 3:46.42).
Westfield placed 15th in the overall team finish with 19 points. Amherst finished first (92 points), followed by Wachusett (79), and St. John’s (53).
