Volleyball sweeps pair

QUINCY – Westfield State picked up a pair of non-conference volleyball wins on Saturday, defeating Mount Ida College and Eastern Nazarene College by 3-0 scores in both matches at the Lahue Physical Education center at ENC.

In the opener against Mount Ida, Westfield cruised past the Mustangs 25-19 and 25-15 in the first two games, before being extended to 26-24 in the third and final set.
Natasha Belardo led Westfield hitters with eight kills, while paig Donahue added seven. Lizzie Taylor served seven aces and came up with 16 digs, and Brigid Murray recorded 25 assists.
In the night cap, Westfield prevailed over ENC by scores of 25-19, 25-17, 25-11. Micaela Murray served up a dozen aces, just one shy of a school record in the win. Belardo led the Owls hitting attack with nine kills, with Jen Green adding eight. Brigid Murray dished out 28 assists.
Westfield State improves to 4-7 on the season and has won four straight matches. Mount Ida is now 5-5, while Eastern Nazarene is 3-5 on the season.
The Owls will host Bay Path College on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.
