Walker extends WHS’ streak

improved to a season best 8-0.
Westfield (130.925) topped Agawam (123.725) and Hampshire (119.70).
Walker had a solid all-around performance, also tying for second on the vault (8.275), placing third on the uneven bars (8.6), and capturing fourth with her floor routine (8.4).
Westfield’s Kendall Neidig was second on uneven bars (8.65) and third in the floor exercise. (8.7). Bombers’ Sarah Hogan and Mairead Hagan placed third and fourth, respectively, on the beam with an 8.10 and 8.05.

Mastrio’s mastery downs WHS
Minnechaug 4, Westfield 1

Liz Mastrio had a hand in all four goals, scoring two and assisting and two others – all in the second half – to defeat visiting Westfield Tuesday.
Liz Marcyoniak scored the Bombers’ lone goal. Leighanne Sullivan assisted.
Karly Mastello finished with 19 saves for injury-ravaged Westfield (3-9-2), which was officially eliminated from the postseason chase.

Westfield 3, Minnechaug 2

Westfield secured its ninth win of the season, thanks in large part to sophomore Emily Ciccolo’s debut in goal – she had 12 saves.
Minnechaug took the early lead, scoring their first goal at 27:21 in the first half. Westfield’s Diana Shia answered back to even up the score at 9:44 from an assist by Maddie Fortier.
Both teams battled hard, but the score remained 1-1 at the half.
In the second half, it was Westfield’s turn to come out scoring with Kailey King finding the back of the cage at 25:53 off a goalkeeper deflection.
Westfield’s Julia Rowbotham started an offensive charge from deep in the Bomber defensive end when she see came up with the ball on a Minnechaug 16 yard hit. Rowbotham went endline to endline and scored what would end up being the winning goal at 5:29 unassisted.
Ciccolo and defenders Delia Smith, Jenny Bourgoin, and Julia Visconti thwarted off nearly all of Minnechaug’s second half shots with the final goal of the game squeaking in with 20.4 seconds remaining.
“The girls played a great game and showed lots of promise for the future,” Westfield coach Linda Rowbotham said.
Westfield, which has just three games remaining in the regular season, is now 9-3.
