Westfield Bank closes branch lobbies

JAMES HAGAN

WESTFIELD – To adhere to the guidelines established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, or COVID-19, Westfield Bank has announced the closure of its branch lobbies March 20.
While branch lobbies will remain closed indefinitely, Westfield Bank President/CEO James Hagan is ensuring its customers that drive-up windows and ATM machines will remain open.
According to Hagan, existing customers can schedule appointments as needed for things like safe deposit boxes.
“As always, our primary focus is the safety and well-being of our customers, employees, and the communities we serve,” stated Hagan on the bank’s web site.
“We are meeting regularly to assess the situation and are actively following the guidelines established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC),” he continued. “We are also monitoring information provided by federal, state, and local agencies. Any decisions we make will be based on the advice of experts and in the best interest of all of our constituencies.
Some of the steps that Westfield Bank is taking to ensure the public’s safety is: suspending all non-essential business travel for employees; initiating enhanced cleaning of all branch offices, departments and ATMs; providing hand sanitizer at branch locations for customers and employees; requiring employees who are sick to remain home; encouraging customers to use drive-up, ATMS, and remote banking technology; and, where business functions allow, identifying employees who can work from home.
Westfield Bank is also taking steps to assist customers who may be financially impacted by the pandemic such as offering payment forbearances or special arrangements for consumer loans, assisting with commercial loans customers, and providing Disaster Assistance Loans through the U.S. Small Business Administration and the State of Massachusetts.
“While these are certainly challenging times, I’m confident that together, we will persevere and be stronger than ever as a nation, a region, and a community,” Hagan stated.
Westfield Bank’s customers are urged to visit the bank’s web site for the latest developments and updates. Anyone with additional questions is asked to contact the Customer Call Center at 413-568-1911 or 800-995-5734.
