Westfield fights off elimination again

WORCESTER – The Westfield Little League Softball Senior All-Stars live to see another day on the diamond.

Westfield dazzled its way to a 21-1 thrashing of Winchendon at Ty Cobb Field in Worcester on Tuesday night.

Westfield advances to Thursday night’s game at Rockwood at 5:30 p.m.

Madison Brockney (3-for-5, 3 runs), Kaitlyn Puza (4-5, 5 runs, 3 RBIs), Vicky Camp (3-5, 3 runs, 2 RBIs), Carolyn Dufraine (3-5, 4 RBIs), Taylor St. Jacques (hit, RBI), Karly Mastello (2-5, 3 runs, 2 RBIs), Paige Templeton (2-5, run, RBI), Brittany Kowalski (run scored), Shelena Nieves (hit, run, RBI), and Alyssa Clement (3-4, 3 runs) led the Westfield attack, which racked up 22 hits to just two for the competition.

Jen Moller (4 Ks) gave up just one hit and one walk in four innings, and Camp gave up one unearned run, one hit, and one walk in relief duty.

Westfield delivered defensively as well with great fielding plays from Alyssa Clement at second base, Shelena Nieves in right field backing up an overthrow to prevent runners from advancing, and Taylor St. Jacques in left battling the sun.
”This was a great team effort where everyone contributed,” said Westfield Little League Senior Softball All-Stars manager Mark Reardon. “We need to keep the momentum going into Thursday.”
