Westfield finishes second at WNE invite

SPRINGFIELD – The Westfield State University women’s cross country team finished second in the Western New England University Invitational on Saturday.
Salve Regina University captured the championship in the 22-team field with 55 points, followed by Westfield (80) and Roger Williams University (136).
Freshman Jenn Asci of Rockland, Mass. was Westfield’s top runner, finishing eighth out of 190 runners with a time of 20:03.31 on the 5K course. She was followed by Olivia Marshall (9th, 20:07.62), Jenn Holley (13th, 20:22.25), Lori Merlo (22nd, 20:39.22), and Andrea Domings (28th, 20:48.78).
Erin Haynes of Endicott crossed the finish line first in 19:13.03.
The Owls are idle next weekend in preparation for the conference championships, which are being held Saturday, Nov. 2, at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham.
