WESTFIELD- The Health Department reported 101 new COVID-19 cases in Westfield to bring the pandemic total to 2,347.
The 101 new cases marks the third straight week that numbers have fallen, after a pandemic-peak of 247 cases in one week in January in the wake of Christmas and New Year’s gatherings.
The Health Department also reported that 160 people were in isolation with active cases of COVID-19 as of Wednesday, Feb. 3.
Three additional COVID-19-related deaths were also reported, bringing Westfield’s pandemic total for deaths to 95.
The lowering case counts come just days after the opening of the first major mass vaccination site in the area. The Eastfield Mall in Springfield, in addition to being a mass COVID-19 testing site, now also has a mass vaccination site in one of its vacant department stores. The site opened on Feb. 1.
People aged 75 and older are now eligible for the vaccine in Massachusetts.
