Westfield State betters Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER – Natasha Belardo and Jen Green each hammered 10 kills to lead the way for Westfield State, as the Owls handed Bridgewater State a 3-0 defeat in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday.
The Owls won 25-21, 25-19, and 28-26 in the conference win against Bridgewater, then dropped a non-conference match to the University of Southern Maine, 25-15, 25-18, 25-12. Westfield is now 11-13 overall on the season and 4-1 in the MASCAC. With the win, the Owls tightened their grip on the second place spot in the conference and have 1.5 game lead over Bridgewater, MCLA and Salem for the second seed in the conference tournament.
Setter Brigid Murray provided 24 assists for the Owls in the win. Libero Lizzie Taylor served four aces and came up with 13 digs.
Against USM, Belardo had five kills and Brianna Starkey added four.
Bridgewater is now 7-14 and 2-2 in the MASCAC. Southern Maine defeated Bridgewater 3-0 in the third match of the tri match; The Huskies are 13-9 overall this season.
