Westfield State field hockey outscores Framingham

wsu-field-hockeyWestfield – Senior Holly Brouillette (Burlington, Mass.) scored three goals as Westfield State University won their first Little East Conference game of the season, 6-1, over Framingham State University in field hockey at Alumni Field Thursday night.
Westfield’s Alanah Melanson (Chelmsford, Mass.) scored the Owls’ first goal after a redirected shot from Delaney Gembis (North Chelmsford, Mass.) just ten minutes into the game.
Brouillette was able to make it 2-0 for the Owls after a shot by sophomore Carly Zona (Auburn, Mass.) was blocked. The loose ball deflected to Brouillette, making it a 2-0 game with 8:34 to go in the first half.
After a flurry of activity in front of the net, Framingham State’s freshman Caitlin Baril (Lakeville, Mass., Apponequet) knocked in a goal off a pass from freshman Heather Burdett (Phillipston, Mass., Narragansett Regional) with 2:22 left in the first half, making it a 2-1 game at half-time.
The Owls added four more goals by Zona, Meg Doherty (Mansfield, Mass.) and two more from Brouillette making the final score 6-1 over the Framingham State Rams.
Westfield State held a 38-9 advantage in shots and a 17-7 advantage in shots on goal. Haley Duggan (Framingham, Mass.) made 11 saves for the Rams. Westfield State senior goalkeeper Megan Fountaine (Scituate, Mass.) made six saves for the Owls.
Westfield improves to 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in the conference, while Framingham is now 0-2.
The Owls play their next game Saturday, September 10 against Bridgewater State at 3:30 p.m. on Alumni Field.
