Westfield Technical to honor nursing students at pinning ceremony

WESTFIELD – A pinning and candlelighting ceremony will be Feb. 14 at 12:30 p.m. in the auditorium at Westfield Technical Academy for the Allied Health senior class of 2020.

Seven students who have completed the Nurse Aide Training Program and passed the state written and practicum exams to become Certified Nurse Assistants will be honored.
CNAs to be honored include Morgan Danck, Ashley Hall, Samantha Hockenberry, Crystal Lin, Julie McCorkindale, Jordyn Sanders and Savannah Shay.
Primary Nursing Assistant Instructor Maureen Baillargeon, RN, MSN, said the students will be honored for their hard work and dedication to educational excellence. Also participating in the ceremony will be Clinical Instructors Jacqueline Barcomb, LPN and Heather Potito, MSN-BC.
Each honoree will be presented with a caduceus pin and will confirm the completion of the program with a candle lighting ceremony and recitation of the Nightingale Pledge, a traditional oath taken by new nurses.
The WTA Nursing Assistant Program combines classroom theory with work-based learning opportunities to provide high school students with the skills needed to obtain the Massachusetts State Nurse Aide Certification and begin a career in the healthcare industry.
Students in the program gain practical knowledge about nursing and healthcare professions through hands-on clinical experience in area hospitals and long-term care facilities.
