Brattleboro put the pressure on Westfield from the drop of the puck, keeping the Bombers on defense for most of the first period. Brattleboro scored their first goal on a shot that slipped past everyone and eventually past Westfield goalie Sean Rowbotham. Brattleboro then had a breakaway denied on a great save by Rowbotham, only to have the rebound get past the net minder. The second period started with another quick shot past the Westfield goalie, leaving the Bombers down 3-0. Westfield played some good defense, with top shelf effort by Jake Marcoulier and Aidan Jubb. Harrison Klein showed heart and hustle and he tried to make something happen for Westfield. The Bombers showed some life in the third period with a great breakaway save by Rowbotham, and a few offensive attacks led by Ryan Major and Olivia Lawry. But Westfield still could not find the back of the net, and allowed 1 last breakaway goal by Brattleboro, leaving the game with a final score of 4-0.

Westfield Jr. Bombers 7, WTM 0
Saturday November 2, 2013 at Amelia Park Arena
Bantam 2

The Westfield Jr. Bombers Bantam 2 Team shook off an opening week loss with a convincing 7-0 win over an outmatched WTM team. Six different Jr. Bombers found the back of the net, led by Alex Beauchemin’s two goals.
Nikita Chepurin got things started, taking a pass from Beauchemin and giving the Jr. Bombers a 1-0 lead halfway through the first period. Before the period ended, two defensemen, Charlie Bonatakis and John Pitoniak, would add their first goals, respectively, of the young season, and the Jr. Bombers would lead 3-0 after the first.
The second period was short on scoring chances until the final minute, when the Jr. Bombers struck again. Scotty Bussell showed a sniper’s accuracy in beating the WTM goalie (46 saves) to give Westfield a 4-0 lead, and Beauchemin took the following faceoff, raced down, and beat the goalie again a scant 8 seconds later for the 5-0 lead.
As the third period began, Liam Webster quickly added his name to the scoring ledger, taking a pass from Danny Antonellis and adding the 6th Westfield goal.
Not to be outdone by the high flying offense, the Jr. Bomber defense, led by Devin Baker and Tyler Bennett, helped Matt Brady (15 saves) pitch his first shutout of the season. Any time a WTM forward got the puck into the offensive zone, he found himself overwhelmed by a dominant Westfield defense, and then Brady proved to be the proverbial Brick Wall behind the smothering defense.
With the win, Westfield improved to 1-1 on the season. They’ll look to get a winning streak going when they next hit the ice in two weeks.

The third period showed the Bombers kept their legs as they continued to keep the puck in the Caps zone.
