WHS JV field hockey a winner

WESTFIELD – The Westfield High School Junior Varsity Field Hockey team defeated visiting Southwick Regional High School 9-3 Friday to extend its home winning streak to 3-0.
The Lady Bombers dominated the first half, scoring seven goals while the Lady Rams netted a sole goal in the last three minutes of the opening half.
Sophomore captain Brooke Keeney put Westfield on the scoreboard with the first goal of the game at 25:36, assisted by Julia Rowbotham. Freshman Captain Miranda Boudreau drove in the next goal of the game at 21:11 off a pass from Olivia Chaoush. Jordan Bower added the third goal on an assist from Keeney. Keeney then scored her second goal of the game from Chaoush. Bower followed with her second goal (the 5th goal of the game) with the assists credited to Rowbotham and Keeney. Chaoush picked up her own goal of the half from Keeney, and Meg Parent scored her first goal of the season from Bower. Southwick’s sole first half goal was scored by Ester Kaney. Erica Pilicard assisted on the play. Jillian McCormick put another Westfield goal on the board in the second half at 23:38 and Bower completed her hat trick with a goal at 20:45. Both goals were unassisted.
Southwick’s Kaney answered with her own unassisted goal at 10:45.
The last goal of the game at 3:02 was scored by Jillian Wroth, a rostered Westfield JV player, who was playing for Southwick in a show of good sportsmanship to bolster the Rams roster which was short players.
Without Westfield’s Kalista Fantakis, Emily Farrar, and Jillian McCormick who played for Southwick in the first half, as well as Westfield’s Morgan Shia, Shayna Buchanan, Julia Rowbotham, and Wroth who filled in the second, the game could not have been played as an 11 versus 11 high school game. Westfield goalkeeper Jenna Rothermel had three saves in goal in the first half while teammate Alexis Corcoran had six saves in goal the second half.
Southwick’s remarkable goalkeeper Sarah Powers had 33 saves for the entire game. – Linda Rowbotham contributed to this report.
BOYS’ JV SOCCER
Southwick-Tolland 2, Hampshire 0

Southwick’s Brandon Caster scored on a pass from Riley O’Connor, and Matt Daley notched a goal from Matt Lucrenski. Brett Geddis, Will Pratt, O’Connor, Matt Lucrenski, Chad Birchall, and Ryan LeClaire delivered a solid defensive effort for the Rams (3-0).
GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
Southwick 3, Franklin Tech 0

Milan Andreoli (6 kills), Jess Martin (12 assists), Taylor Keiderling (7 aces), Olivia Diamond (14 digs) propelled Southwick-Tolland past Franklin Tech, 25-18, 25-23, 25-15.
