PALMER – The Westfield boys’ and girls’ swim teams visited Palmer High School for the first time in over a decade on Tuesday.
The Bomber girls fielded a strong team again this year and bested Palmer 140-36.
Westfield (2-0) won all three relay races and finished 1-2-3, sweeping most of the individual events.
Kelsey Johnstone (2:06.57), Sarah Russell and Anoushka Sharma swept the 200 freestyle. Senior captain Lauren Longley (2:27.15) won the 200 individual medley, The trio of Hannah Ditto (26.94), Sarah Lander and Georgia Seymour swept the 50 freestyle.
Westfield’s Maura Berry won the 1 Meter Springboard diving with a score of 128.35.
The 100 butterfly featured another Westfield sweep, courtesy of Longley (103.50), Haley Jurczyk, and Madison Stinehart. Similarly, the Bombers swept the 100 freestyle via Kate McCabe (1:02.70), Anne Goyette and Sarah Russell.
The grueling 500 freestyle went to Westfield, Samantha Dolan (5:58.32), Rachel Charette and Russell, finishing 1-2-3.
Palmer’s sole win of the day came in the 100 backstroke.
In the last individual event, Johnstone (1:15.03), Stinehart and Casey Sturmer swept the 100 breaststroke.
BOYS’ RESULTS
The Westfield boys also dominated their meet, outscoring the Panthers 111-57. The Bombers (2-0) outscored Palmer in every individual event and relay.
Westfield’s Slav Prashuk (2:17.18) won the 200 freestyle, touching out teammate Sam Cloutier.
Nic Rosso (2:13.00) won the 200 individual medley.
In the fastest swim of the day, Westfield’s Senior captain Chris Tu (25.50) touched out teammate Austin Kearney. Senior captain James Wagner took top honors in diving with a score of 162.20.
Swimming resumed with Gabe Centeno (1:06.15) winning a thrilling one-on-one battle in the 100 butterfly. Prashuk won his second event of the day finishing the 100 freestyle in 58.25. Similarly, standout Rosso won his second event of the day, finishing the 500 freestyle in 5:15.03.
