WSU field hockey playoff tilt set

WESTFIELD – Westfield State will host first round Little East Conference playoff game between the visiting sixth seed Southern Maine Huskies and the hosting third seed Westfield State Owls on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Alumni Field.
The Owls finished the reguler season with an 11-5 record, 7-4 in conference play. The Huskies come into this game 7-12, 6-5 in conference play.
wsu-field-hockeyOwls: Senior forward Holly Brouillette leads the Owls in goals, scoring 14 this season, and three assists. Brouillette is sixth in the league in goals. Senior midfielder Meg Doherty has six assists on the season and four goals. Senior goalie Megan Fountaine has 120 saves on the season, has a save percentage of .857 and puts the team in fourth in the country in save percentage. Senior defender Alexa Whitney leads the team in defensive saves with eight.
Huskies: Junior forward Tayla Smedberg has eight goal and four assists on the season. Junior forward Lindsay Jackson has six goals on the season, and senior forward Jennifer Poulin has three goals this season. Senior goalie Amanda Kasbohm has 108 saves and a save percentage of .771 this season. Freshman goalie Elizabeth Amadei played 6 games and has 25 saves this season. Sophomore defender Morgan Gray has two defensive saves this season and leads the Huskies defense.
The winner of this game will go on to play either Worcester State or Bridgewater State on Wednesday, November 2, and the next game will be played at the site of the higher seed. Wednesday’s game will be the Semi-Final of the Little East Conference.
History: In the last 11 years, the Huskies have nine wins over the Owls, but in the last three meetings, the Owls have won two of them. This is the first time in since before 2005 that these two teams have played in the playoffs. – Rick Sgalia, Sports Information Student Intern
