WSU finishes 7th in Earley invite

WESTFIELD – The Westfield State University women’s cross country team placed seventh in the 18th Annual James Earley Invitational held Oct. 12 at Stanley Park.
A total of 39 teams and 371 runners participated in the popular invitational, with Williams College breezing to the team title with 46 points, placing three runners in the top eight and five in the top 16.
Williams was followed by Southern New Hampshire (119 points), Saint Rose (121), University of New England (132), Roger Williams (174) Saint Anselm (198), and Westfield (213).

Roger Williams junior Hannah Zydanowicz crossed the finish line first and shattered the meet record with a time of 18:02.15 on the 5K (3.1 miles) course. The previous meet record of 18:18.69 was held set by Simone Childs-Walker of Carleton College (Minnesota) in 2008.
Junior Olivia Marshall was Westfield’s top finisher, placing 27th with a time of 20:00.10. She was followed by freshman Taylor Surrette (30th), freshman Jennifer Asci (38th), junior Jenn Holley (45th), and sophomore Michelle Kelleher (73rd).
