WSU places 6th at UMass invite

AMHERST – The Westfield State University men’s track and field team placed sixth in the University of Massachusetts Spring Meet on Saturday.
The Owls totaled 62.5 points in the 14-team invitational, trailing Northeastern (110.5), Williams (101), Central Connecticut (89.5), Stonehill (78), and UMass Amherst (71).
The Owls won two events. Senior All-American Tom Gauger placed first in the pole vault by clearing 15-9, and freshman Tim Shea of West Springfield won the 10,000 meter run with a solid time of 32:03.17.

Freshman Travon Godette finished second in the javelin with a fine throw of 190-6. Junior Zack Madera placed in two events – fourth in the 100 meter dash (11.27) and eighth in the 200 dash (22.68). Madera also was a member of the 4 x 100 relay that placed third in 43.09. Other relay members were John Murphy, Ryan Bota and Devon Clements.
Other top performers for the Owls were: Brendan Corcoran (800, 6th, 1:54.98), Bobby Fitzgibbon (high jump, 6th, 6-1 ¼), Justin Ehrhardt (hammer throw, 6th, 153-0; discus, 7th, 130-0), Steve Connolly (3000 steeplechase, 6th, 10:47.20).
