FRAMINGHAM – The Framingham State women’s soccer team lost a MASCAC matchup with visiting Westfield State by a score of 1-0 Saturday morning at Maple Street Field. With the loss the Rams are now 3-8 and 1-3 in the league. With the win the Owls move to 6-5 and 3-1 MASCAC.
The Owls got off to a quick start when Kate Matroni (Hamden, Mass.) hit in a one-timer after a cross from Taylor Grijalva (Stratham, NH) coming just after a corner kick just 41 ticks into the contest.
The Rams best opportunity came in the 43rd minute when the Rams had the ball in the box took a shot and the rebound created a wide open net for Shelly Nardi (Williamsburg, Mass.) whose shot was blocked at the goal line by a Westfield defender.
The Owls outshot the Rams 12-to-11 and attempted 4 corner kicks to the Rams 2. The physical match had 25 fouls called, 12 for Westfield and 13 against the Rams.
Natalia Falcone (Sutton, Mass.) made four saves in the shutout win for the Owls. Keyonzia Gagne-Lamoureux (East Brookfield, Mass.) also made four stops for the Rams.
