WSU tracks down 6th

SPRINGFIELD – The Westfield State University women’s outdoor track and field team finished sixth in the second annual Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by American International College on Saturday.
The Owls compiled 51 points in the 16-team competition, trailing UMass Amherst (213), AIC (89), Central Connecticut (82), Saint Rose (61), and Wesleyan (55).
The Owls garnered three second place finishes: Rachael Cardin (3000 steeplechase, 11:54.79), Amy Auclair (pole vault, 10-0), and Alex Livingston (hammer throw, 133-11).
Also earning points were: Meghan McNamara (8th, 400 hurdles, 1:11.91), Carolyn Connolly (4th, steeplechase, 12:47.72), 4 x 100 relay (5th, 52.70), Caitlyn Croke (7th, high jump, 4-7 3/4; 5th, javelin, 103-1), Karen Dowe (4th, triple jump, 33-6), Naloti Palma (5th, shot put, 40-0; 6th, discus, 111-8), and Marisa Parmeggiani (8th, javelin, 96-9).
The Westfield State University men’s outdoor track and field team also finished sixth.
The Owls compiled 59.5 points in the 17-team competition, trailing UMass Amherst (101), Central Connecticut (86), Sacred Heart (79.5), AIC (79), and Amherst (63).
Senior All-American Tom Gauger claimed the Owls’ lone first place, clearing 14-11 in the pole vault.
Senior Justin Ehrhardt placed in two events – hammer throw (3rd, 151-1) and shot put (4th, 43-1).
Also earning points were: Zack Madera (6th, 100, 11.31), Anthony Frissora (4th, 800, 1:54.93), Mike Kelleher (2nd, 3000 steeplechase, 10:04.99), Bobby Fitzgibbon (4th, high jump, 6-0), Zack Delisle (4th, pole vault, 12-11 ½), Wesley Dominique (6th, pole vault, 11-5 ¾), and Anthony Fodera (4th, javelin, 172-0).
