WESTFIELD – The Westfield State Owls women’s track team won six events at the Springfield College Open, finishing third out of four teams.
Springfield College won the meet with 181 points, followed by Worcester Polytechnic Institute with 159 points and Westfield State with 124 points.
Westfield State freshman Alexa Popp (Westford, Mass.) won the 400-meter dash, completing the race in 1:01.78, more than two seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
The Owls placed strong in the distance runs, as junior Ashley Monahan (Springfield, Mass.) placed first in the 1000-meter run with a time of 3:11.01 and sophomore Jessie Cardin (Sutton, Mass.) won the 5000-meter run at 18:14.67.
Sophomore Sabrina Pray (Mansfield, Mass. took a competitive 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.28, while freshman Anna Grudzinski finished third.
Sophomores Ashley Craig and Naloti Palma-Kaluma each won a field event for the Owls. Craig finished first in the pole vault, while Palma-Kaluma (Westborough, Mass.) won the shot put.
