WESTFIELD – Three Westfield Technical Academy students medaled in the SkillsUSA state competition in Marlboro last weekend, two from Allied Health and one from Electrical Wiring.
“We had an excellent conference with the competitors competing with pride and determination,” said SkillsUSA advisor Maureen Baillargeon.
Savannah Shay, a junior in the Allied Health shop, took home a Gold medal in Medical Math. Baillargeon, who is also the Allied Health Department Head, said she was pleased to see all of Savannah’s hard work and focus toward excellence pay off.
Savannah will attend the National Conference in Louisville, Kentucky the last week of June, a five-day conference where she will be competing against 50 states and 4 American territories. The school will be raising money to send Savannah to the national conference. Baillargeon said donations to support Savannah’s conference may be mailed to Westfield Technical Academy, 33 Smith Avenue, Westfield, MA 01085. Checks may be made payable to WTA SkillsUSA.
Frank Florek a senior in the Electrical Wiring shop competed in Industrial Motor Control, winning a silver medal at the State Skill and Leadership Conference. His teachers are very proud of his accomplishment, said Baillargeon.
Crystal Lin, a junior in the Allied Health shop competed in Basic Health Care. She won a bronze medal and looks forward to competing again next year, Baillargeon said.
