DANBURY, CT – The Westfield State University swimming team won 14 of 16 events on the way to a 147-115 dual-meet victory over Western Connecticut State University Saturday afternoon at the O’Neill Center Pool.
First place finishers for Westfield State included freshman Summer Walker (Sturbridge, MA) with a 12:57.09 in the 1,000 Freestyle; senior Laura Sauriol (Monson, MA) with a 2:11.95 in the 200 Free and a 1:07.27 in the 100 Backstroke; senior Amanda Labriola (Westerly, RI) with a :31.06 in the 50 Back and a 1:08.92 in the 100 IM; freshman Tia Periseau (Holden, MA) with a :33.07 in the 50 Breaststroke and a 1:14.31 in the 100 Breast; sophomore Anna Boucher (Suffield, CT) with a :28.38 in the 50 Free; junior Haylee McQuay (Dartmouth, MA) with a 1:01.10 in the 100 Free; and sophomore Allie Levine (Sherborn, MA) with a 6:21.09 in the 500 Free.
Senior Katie Sterpka (Barkhamsted, CT) swept the diving events for Westfield State, winning the 1-meter with a score of 249.05 and the 3-meter with a score of 237.55.
Westfield State also claimed victory in both the 200 Medley Relay and 200 Free Relay.
Both of Western’s first place finishes were turned in by freshman Brianna Christiano (Prospect, CT) with a 1:06.79 in the 100 yard Butterfly and a :29.75 in the 50 Fly.
With the loss, Western’s dual-meet record stands at 2-6, while Westfield State improves its dual-meet record to 3-3. The Colonials return to the pool February 12-15 when they travel to compete in this year’s New England Championships which will be hosted by the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, RI.
