WESTFIELD – Neither team is bound for the postseason, but that fact could not get in their fight.
St. Mary’s and Westfield Vocational-Technical High School battled for local supremacy – namely bragging rights – with the Saints coming out on top of the Tigers 30-25.
It was an offensive struggle for the game’s first eight minutes. Both teams made just one field goal.
Alison Easton led St. Mary with 13 points. Tessa Kielbasa (6 points), Karissa Foley (4), Lauren Chapdelaine (4), Marissa Hannoush (1), and Anna Kozinski (1) also scored for the Saints, who turned it up of offensively late.
Katie Nesmelova also led Voc-Tech with 13 points. Taya Allen had seven.

Pioneer rallied from a 21-13 halftime deficit to defeat visiting St. Mary’s. Saints’ Drew Collins (13 points) and Steve McKenna (7) led their team in scoring.
Renaissance runs past Rams
Renaissance 72, Southwick 47
Matt Daley, Ryan Leclair, and Nick Hough scored eight points apiece for Southwick.
In other boys’ basketball games, Hampden Charter School of Science routed Westfield Voc-Tech 75-43, and Gateway hosted Holyoke Catholic. Cathedral goalie Lexi Levere (Westfield) and the Panthers shut out Oakmont 8-0 in girls’ ice hockey action Thursday. No further details were available as of press time.
