My chief statistician tells me “The Putz” is back.
While I did manage to post a very respectable 12-2 record, there was another long-time player who was even better.
Westfield resident Dick Witherell went 13-1 (and survived a tiebreaker against Verne Zabek) to claim the Week 3 prize, a gift certificate to the Tavern Restaurant.
“Not too many people would have beaten me I guess,” said Witherell, whose only loss was the Cleveland Browns.
Witherell said the secret to his success, much like Alan Shia noted last week, is purchasing several print editions of The Westfield News throughout the week and entering multiple entries, changing just the toughest of games.
“First I select the games I am fairly confident in,” Witherell said, “and then I split (the tough picks) on my entries, and hopefully get a little lucky.”
It has been a recipe for success.
Witherell has already claimed weekly prizes twice last season, and three times during 2013.
“I’ve been pretty successful,” he said. “I have not been shut out so that’s good. Now I’ve got a night out at The Tavern.”
All entrants who manage to beat my weekly record will also be entered into our grand prize drawing of a flat screen TV, courtesy of Manny’s TV & Appliances, at season’s end.
And just a reminder – get your entries in on time! Late entries will not be accepted, and entries with blank/fake names will be disqualified.
