Attention NASCAR fans, March Madness fanatics, golf and horse racing pundits! We have a contest for you.
Due to the overwhelming popularity of our “Beat ‘The Putz’” pro football contest, we are about to give readers of The Westfield News sports pages something more.
Beginning with the Daytona 500 on Sun., Feb. 26, local sports fans will have a chance to put their sports knowledge to the test with our brand new contest, “Putz’s Ultimate Sports Challenge.”
All you have to do to get started is fill out one of our contest forms (one entry per person), which will appear daily in The Westfield News sports section beginning Sat. Feb. 18. The deadline for the first submission is Fri., Feb. 24 at 11:59 p.m. Entries must be postmarked by Friday, or dropped off at our office located at 62 School Street in Westfield by the close of business day Friday.
In the first leg of our season-long competition, pick the winner of NASCAR’s Daytona 500. If your race car driver wins the race, you will be awarded three points. If that driver finishes second, you will receive two points. A third-place finish will net one point.
Whoever accumulates the most points will be deemed the weekly winner and will be awarded our weekly prize. Any ties for the weekly prize will be broken by a random drawing.
Putz’s Ultimate Sports Challenge begins with the Daytona 500 and ends with the PGA Championship in August. “Challenge” events will include the Daytona 500, Coca-Cola 600, Brickyard 400, all four men’s PGA Tour Majors (The Masters, U.S. Open, British Open, PGA Championship), the Triple Crown (Kentucky Derby, The Preakness, Belmont Stakes), and the NCAA Division I men’s basketball Final Four.
Points will be awarded to each contestant following the conclusion of every “Challenge” event.
The Westfield News will publish a weekly leaderboard of our contest’s overall leaders in the points race for the grand prize. The overall points leader following the conclusion of our final “Challenge” event will be deemed our grand prize winner.
Details regarding our grand prize will be revealed in the coming weeks.
