Wacky walk-off

WESTFIELD – Cam Lisowski clubbed a towering two-out, bases-loaded fly ball that dropped into short center field for two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, and Westfield National walked off with a dramatic 6-5 win over Westfield American in Little League Baseball District 2 tournament play Thursday night at Paper Mill Field.
“It was way higher than far,” Westfield National manager Shane Collins said of the game-winning hit. “Nobody moved. It was crazy.”
Westfield National actually enjoyed a 4-3 lead heading into the top of the sixth inning before falling behind by one run after committing three errors.

It was not the only time that the Nats had to rally.
Westfield National came out swinging early on in the contest but fell behind until Cody Collins smacked a 300-foot home run in the fourth inning to give his team a 3-2 lead.
“We had them, then they had us, then we gave it to them, then they gave it to us,” manager Collins said. “Bot teams – it was like nobody wanted it. It was just crazy… It was kind of what I expected. I knew it was going to be a good game. The last inning was just crazy.”
Westfield National received strong pitching from Cam Lisowski (3 2/3 inn., 8 Ks), Ethan Porter 1 2/3 inn., 3 Ks), and Josh Mayo, who picked up two key outs in a bases loaded situation for Westfield American.
“We pick each other up and keep fighting,” Collins said.
Ryder Pieczarka went 3-for-3 for Westfield National. Anthony Schabowski and Ethan Porter each had key hits.
Westfield American pitcher Kyle Scherpa scattered five hits over 3 2/3 innings. He struck out eight batters, walked two, and allowed three runs, one of which was unearned.
Jacob Wagner (double, run scored) and Caden Matuszczak (double, 2 runs, RBI) each went 2-for-3 for Westfield American.
In other Little League action, the Belchertown 10-Year-Olds defeated Westfield American 11-1 in four innings.
