FLORENCE – It was a bit of déjà vu for the Westfield Technical Academy High School baseball team and one of its young rising stars.
For the second time this season, Westfield Tech freshman Trent Adam tossed a complete game to earn another hard-fought victory. Adam scattered five hits, struck out seven batters and walked none as the Tigers defeated Smith Voke on the road 8-1.
Adam was also an offensive star on the day, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
The freshman phenom was not alone in his effort though with solid contributions from Andy Daniels (2-for-3, 2 runs), Chris Boyden (1-for-1, 2 walks, 2 runs), Dante Bongiovanni (2-for-4, 2 RBIs), and Mateo Sanchez (2 runs).
The defensive play of the game came in the third inning when Westfield Tech outfielder Andy Daniels made a diving catch in left-center field to rob Smith Voke with a runner at second base.
Westfield Tech also turned a double play in the sixth inning. Darrien Wilson-Grant snatched a line drive and doubled up the runner at first base with a throw to Bongiovanni.
Westfield Tech improved to 6-5 overall, 3-0 league game.

Bombers battle, suffer loss
Algonquin 7, Westfield 5
Cam Theriault (2 goals, 1 assist), Matt Bonsall (1 goal, 1 assist), Kohl Lunardini (goal), Landon Reyes (goal) contributed on the offensive side for Westfield.
Westfield’s Kohl Lunardini was strong on face-offs and ground balls, Gavin Carzello provided an outstanding by causing turnovers and clearing with long poles, Kris Meneses and Dalton Kiniry, at close defense, and Tyler Shrewsbury and Danny Buckelew, at defensive mids, were aggressive and major contributors.
Westfield goalie Alex Beauchemin made 15 saves.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Bresett, Hoosac prevail
Hoosac Valley 14, St. Mary’s 0
Claudia Bresett led Hoosac Valley with four goals and one assist. Anna Kosinski finished with 15 saves.
Samantha Moran and Skylar Duda played well in the midfield for St. Mary’s.
Bombers run into Algonquin
Algonquin 18, Westfield 7
Algonquin proved to be a tough opponent as expected, delivering a loss to Westfield.
“They just came out of the gate and commanded the draw,” Westfield coach Paul Fenwick said. “We learned a lot, they’re a very tough team.”
Westfield buckled down in the second half, allowing just four goals, including one in the final 10 seconds.
Senior Hannah Jarvis led Westfield (with two goals and two assists. Freshman Lara Finnie also had two goals for the Bombers.
SOFTBALL
Bombers rally, fall short
Hampshire 8, Westfield 7 (8 inn.)
Westfield rallied with a five-run sixth inning and battled back with two runs in the seventh inning but fell in extra innings.
Erin Gour (double, 2 runs, RBI) and Haley Moniz (2 doubles, RBI) led Westfield with two hits apiece.
Tigers bats come alive

Westfield Tech exploded for 15 hits, five of which went for extra bases.
Sophomore Kiki Serrano had a double, triple, and three RBIs,; Ari Levere, Crystal Lin, and Hannah Massoni each doubled.
The Tigers’ defense also turned two double plays.
Westfield Tech pitchers Hannah Masoni and Leilani Marsh combined forces on the mound with just three walks and two strikeouts.
Gators scratch ‘Cats
Gateway 14, Sci-Tech 2
Audrey Gamble went 3-for-4 with a run scored, Allison Manos (run) and Grace Van Buren (2 runs) had two hits apiece, Stephanie Paiva and Katelyn Bean scored three runs apiece, and Ava Auclair finished with a hit, run, and two RBIs to lead Gateway.
Gamble allowed just one hit on the mound. She struck out nine.

Culver, Temchenko put up good fight
Longmeadow 5, Westfield 0
Westfield’s Mackenzie Culver and Anna Temchenko lost a hard-fought match at second doubles, falling to Longmeadow’s Lily Dunne and Ella Dietz 4-6, 6-0, 10-4.

Rams rally past Red Raiders
Southwick def. Commerce 21-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-18
After dropping their first set, the Southwick Rams swept the final three to snare a road victory.
Chris Baker (16 kills, 1 dig, 3 aces, 2 blocks), Zach Thorne (15 kills, 1 assist, 6 digs, 1 ace), Nolan Winch (10 kills, 1 assist, 6 digs, 2 aces), Chance Tang (12 digs), and Kacper Kisala (5 kills, 4 assists, 2 digs, 6 aces, 1 block) provided the fuel that fired off a win.
Bombers win 15th straight
Westfield def. West Springfield 25-16, 25-20, 25-16
Shane Kiendzior (16 kills, 6 aces), Luis Castro (27 assists, 4 digs), Ryan Murray (8 kills, 2 aces), James Pavlyuk (5 kills, 3 aces), and Gabe Santiago (6 digs, 3 aces) paved the way for Westfield’s 15th straight win. The Bombers are 8-0 in the North Division.
GIRLS TENNIS
Panthers nip Saints
Palmer 3, St. Mary’s 2
St. Mary’s put up a tough fight to win a match in singles competition and a doubles patch, but Palmer managed to escape with a narrow victory.
Senior Alexis Shedd delivered a strong effort at first singles, keeping Palmer’s Maria Beaulieu on the move while mixing her cross court shots and dropping short net volleys to win 6-4, 6-3.
In doubles play, Saints’ sophomores Madison Hamlin and Natalie Meyers defeated Sasha Bernard and Olivia Desantis 6-4, 6-2. Hamlin proved too tough at the net, and Meyers provided solid backcourt coverage.
