A lasting impression

LONGMEADOW – It appears the Westfield High School golf team has saved the best for last.
Westfield had six golfers shoot a 41 or better at Franconia Golf Course to defeat Cathedral 237-245 Tuesday.
The Bombers outdid their previous best by 12 shots.
“It was one of those days where everybody kind of came together,” Westfield coach Chris Strycharz said. “Everybody played well – it was pretty awesome to watch.”
Westfield’s Jeremy Doody led all golfers with a 38. Bombers’ Colin Dunn and John Kiefer each shot a 39, Taylor Schmidt and Connor Sullivan finished with a 40, and Dan Hickson had a 41.
“This is what we were hoping to get all year,” coach Strycharz said. “It’s great to see we’re coming around now.”
Westfield (8-10) will attempt to deliver an encore performance in tomorrow’s season finale – against Cathedral again – at Franconia in Longmeadow.
Monson 22, Westfield Voc-Tech 2
Matt King shot a 44 to lead Westfield Voc-Tech (2-11-1) at Quaboag Country Club. Monson’s Robert Scikelli was the top medalist at 40.
