WESTFIELD – Greater Westfield Babe Ruth League President is excited to announce that a team from Hawaii Kai, HI has punched their ticket to the 13-Year-Old Babe Ruth World Series Aug. 7-15 at Bullens Field. Reports from the team are that a portion of their roster also participated in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA last summer.
Joining the Hawaii team is also the New England region champions from Pittsfield.
“We are excited to have our Western Mass Babe Ruth friends also earning their way to play in the World Series,” Welch said. “Our invited ‘Guest Team’ will arrive in Westfield from Calgary, Alberta Canada to join with our own Westfield Babe Ruth team of 13-year-olds to play in the World Series.”
Other teams coming to Westfield will be Middle Atlantic regional champion Centre County (PA), Midwest Plains regional champion Fargo (ND), Ohio Valley regional champion Janesville (WI), Pacific Northwest regional champion Spokane (WA), Southwest regional champion Greenville (NC), and Southwest regional champion Meridian (MS).
There will also be many special events scheduled throughout the week with a skills competition Wed., Aug. 7 from 12:30-2:30 p.m. (free admission), Opening Ceremonies on Thurs., Aug. 8 at 6:30 p.m., a World Series Dedication to Kevin Sullivan on Fri., Aug. 9 at 6:30 p.m., a Special Recognition Ceremony to Past Westfield World Series Teams (1975, 1989, 1992, 2012 and 2014) Sat., Aug. 10 at 6:30 p.m., and a Salute to Westfield on Mon., Aug. 11 at 6:30 p.m.
W”e encourage baseball fans from all over Western Mass. to come out to some of the games,” Welch said. “There will certainly be some great baseball played in the World Series.”
