WESTFIELD – The Westfield High School baseball team erased a recent injury-plagued debacle with a fresh start from a new face.
Westfield’s Matt Irzyk allowed one hit and struck out four batters over four innings to help lead the Bombers past South Hadley, 6-3, Wednesday at Bullens Field.
Rob Sullivan drove in two runs for Westfield. Bombers’ Tim Donahue, Nate Barnes, and Ashton Kennedy each batted in one run.
It was a welcome victory for Westfield, which lost a day earlier to Central 12-9. In that game, the Bombers committed four errors in the third inning which led to eight runs for the Golden Eagles.
All was not lost though as Westfield’s Cam Robitaille clubbed a home run, hit a sac-fly, and racked up three RBIs. Bombers’ Jake Toomey went 2-for-4.
