NORTHAMPTON – The Westfield High School field hockey team got an early taste of the postseason Wednesday.
Northampton scored two goals in each half to hand Westfield a tough 4-0 defeat. The Blue Devils netted a couple of deflections and took advantage of two goals from Emily Allcroft.
“It was a tough loss for Westfield,” Bombers coach Karen Gomez said. “Northampton looked great. They should be a big contender for Western Mass. I believe they’re the best team we have faced so far.”
Gomez said senior Vicki Whalen played a phenomenal game on defense, despite the loss.
“Lexi Minicucci and Ashlee Owen got the ball moving into the circle, cut Westfield couldn’t capitalize,” coach Gomez added.
Karly Mastello finished with eight saves for Westfield.
