Bombers, Blue Devils play to a 2-2 tie

WESTFIELD – Monday’s game between the Westfield and Northampton high school field hockey teams was an evenly matched tug-of-war. The Bombers and Blue Devils remained deadlocked at 1-1 at the half, and finished tied 2-2.
Abby Daley scored both Westfield goals. Lara Finnie earned an assist. Kendyll Wing and Kate Sullivan scored for Northampton.
“Westfield put on the pressure offensively but Northampton’s defense held us,” Bombers coach Courtney Albee said. “Their goalie had a great game saving some great shots.”
Northampton goalies Mavis Rudof and Ella Moreau combined for 16 saves. Westfield’s keeper, Ariana Ciaschini collected four saves.
The two teams will meet again this Friday in Northampton. “We look to bring the same intensity when we play them again this Friday,” coach Albee said.

West Springfield scored on a counter attack off Westfield’s corner kick in the waning minutes of the first half, tallied a goal from deep in the third quarter, and drained a penalty kick late.

Southwick’s Matthew Garrity and Agawam’s Dan Harpin each shot a team best 5-over par-35 at Oak Ridge Country Club. Rams’ Andrew Morris finished with a 45.

HS FALL NOTES: Due to the inclement weather Tuesday, a pair of girls soccer matches – – Westfield Technical Academy vs. Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion Charter and St. Mary’s vs. Easthampton – – and two golf matches – – St. Mary’s vs. Westfield Tech and Westfield vs. Agawam – – were postponed.
