Bombers, Falcons battle to tie

WESTFIELD – Two opposing teams were rewarded for their hard work in a high school girls soccer game.
Minnechaug’s Katie Russell scored in the 35th minute to force a 1-1 against host Westfield Thursday. Kaela Mochak put the Bombers out front early with a goal in the sixth minute.

Westfield goalie Adrianna Arona and Minnechaug keeper Rhiann Ryan made seven saves apiece as both defenses pitched a second-half shutout.

Saints return to form
St. Mary’s 3, Franklin Tech 0

St. Mary’s bounced back from two tough losses – their first of the season – with a well-played road game Thursday, a shutout.
Allie Goodreau continued to sizzle, netting a hat trick. She scored all three games in the second half.
Emma Goodreau and Vicky Gargan each set up a score with a great pass.
St. Mary’s goalie Amelia Willenborg was perfect in net with six saves.
“We really came to play today,” St. Mary’s goalie Patrick Olearcek said. “It was a nice win after some tough games earlier this week. I’m very happy to see how well we played right down the middle, starting with Amelia in net, and then Erin Olearcek, Macy Woodger, Maddie Donais, and Chloe Lussier just making it happen.”
St. Mary’s improved to 7-2-2.

Ari Levere (2 saves) and Caitlen Carter (10) combined for 12 saves in net for Westfield Tech on the road.

Rams sneak past Sabis
Southwick 1, Sabis 0

Karli Langan scored the unassisted game-winner for Southwick. Rams’ goalie Hannah Gerrish made five saves to earn a shutout.

Gators get revenge
Gateway 1, Athol 0
Gateway avenged an early season 4-1 loss to Athol with a narrow 1-0 victory. Zach Otterbeck scored the game-winner. Evan Lee assisted.
John Foley (4 saves) and Preson Coffey (3 saves) combined for a shutout in net for Gateway (3-4-1).

Emily Buchter racked up 14 digs and three aces; Allie Methe delivered 10 digs, eight aces, and three kills; Jen Motsko tallied nine digs, four aces, and six kills; Kayla Andrade delivered seven digs, six aces, three kills, and 11 assists; and Kaitlyn Haseltine contributed seven digs, one ace, three kills, and eight assists for Southwick in a thrilling five-set match.
