Bombers silence Greenfield, 4-0

WESTFIELD – Lexi Minicucci scored two goals, and two others – Desiree Otero and Mackenzie Millikan – tallied one goal apiece to lead the Westfield High School field hockey team to a 4-0 shutout of visiting Greenfield.
Otero put Westfield out front early, courtesy of a pass from Ashlee Owen 3 minutes, 56 seconds into the first half. Owen assisted on the next scoring play, dishing off to Minicucci less than four minutes later for a 2-0 lead.
Miniucci gave Westfield a commanding 3-0 advantage with a score off a penalty corner from McKenzie Millikan. Millikan tacked on a goal late in the second half.
Karly Mastello (9 saves) earned her first shutout in net for Westfield. Bombers’ Christine Onyski, Cara Onyski, and Madison Brockney also helped limit Greenfield’s opportunities to score.
JV RESULTS
Westfield 6, Greenfield 1.
The WHS JV Field Hockey team remain unbeaten at home with its 6-1 victory over visiting Greenfield High.
At the half, Westfield led 3-0. Jordan Bower netted the first goal of the game at 14:48 off an assist from Grace Silva. Silva then scored a goal of her own at 3:58 from an assist by Miranda Boudreau. Seconds later at 3:29, Bower scored her second goal when teammate Jill McCormick unloaded a pass from Boudreau.
In the second half, freshman captain Olivia Chaoush was the sole Lady Bomber scorer achieving a hat trick by scoring two goals assisted by Silva and one by Lexi Chia. Freshman Goalkeeper Alexis Corcoran played the entire game in goal, making eight saves and only allowing one Greenfield goal which was scored at 6:00 in the second half.
“I couldn’t be happier with how all this team of girls are playing,” Westfield coach Linda Rowbotham said. “They are constantly improving and executing the plays that we practice. They are truly amazing and their 7-1 record is a direct reflection of their hard work, determination and talent. The future looks very bright.”
