Corsairs stymie Owls

WESTFIELD – Matt Baldino scored a hat trick for UMass-Dartmouth as the Corsairs skated past Westfield State, 6-2, in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference ice hockey game at Amelia Park on Saturday night.
UMD (2-2, 2-1 MASCAC) got on the board first with goals from Connor Court and Connor Cooley for a 2-0 Corsairs lead after one period.
Westfield State (3-2, 1-2 MASCAC) answered when Nik Passero tallied on the power play at 9:57 of the second period to cut the lead to 2-1.
After a Mike Sones goal, Baldino then tallied the next three straight for the Corsairs, extending the lead to 6-1 after stealing a pass at the blueline and going end-to-end, top shelf for a shorthanded goal with 14:50 left in regulation time.
Westfield got a late goal from Jackson Leef to cut the final margin to 6-2.
