HUNTINGTON – It was a tug of war that went … nowhere.
Gateway and Easthampton waged a long battled in a high school girls’ soccer opener Thursday night in Huntington, but remained deadlocked 0-0 at the end.
Kendall Rooney nearly notched the game-winner several times, but Easthampton keeper Alyssa Fugiel turned every shot away.
Gateway’s goalie, Sarah Otterbeck (1 save), was equal to the task. Gators’ defenders Alyssa Moreau, Jessie Walton, Kayla Lent, and Lily Iglesias made her job a bit easier by keeping the ball contained within the midfield area for much of the game.
