Gators chomp Saints, 4-1

WESTFIELD – The Gators of Huntington crawled into the Whip City and took a bite out of the St. Mary Saints’ boys’ soccer team Thursday, 4-1.
Curtis Dowers led Gateway with 2 goals, and Sam Dean and Josh Baillargeon had one goal apiece. Gateway’s Jake Merritt was a true teammate, setting up nearly every score. Merritt finished with three assists.
Kieran O’Donnell scored the lone St. Mary goal with an assist from Zach Girard.
Westfield goalie Mike Arel recorded five saves in net. St. Mary netminder Bryce Kibbe collected 16.
Gateway was fresh off a 3-0 win over Turners Falls, a game which saw the Dowers’ brothers light up the scoreboard. Calvin Dowers had two goals; Curtis, one. Denver Yost, Josh Baillargeon, and Justin Edinger each earned an assist. Mike Arel (1 save) earned a shutout in net for the Gators (5-2-1).
