HUNTINGTON – It was a senior day to remember for three seniors and the rest of their high school softball team at Gateway Regional High School.
Gateway seniors Brooke Fairman, Jamie Pease, and Becca Wolfe kept the senior day festivities going well after the first pitch in Tuesday’s game against visiting Ware. The Gators celebrated their final home game with a resounding 15-3 win in five innings over the Ware Indians.
Fairman and Pease each collected three hits and four RBIs. Fairman (2 Ks) was also solid on the mound, pitching a four-hitter. Wolfe, Kendall Rooney, Arielle Baillargeon, and Bre Bruno had two hits apiece.
“It was a very special day,” Gateway coach Mike Mason said. “It was a perfect start, a perfect middle, and perfect ending. With all of the distractions we stayed focused to pick up our eighth win, which puts us in position for the rest of the season. It was just a nice touch.”
Gateway (8-6) must win two of its final six games – all on the road (2 games were postponed earlier this season) – to qualify for the Western Massachusetts Division III softball tournament.
“Our focus right now is on getting that 10th win, that 9th win against Southwick,” coach Mason said.
The Gators travel to Southwick to take on the Rams Wednesday at 4 p.m.
In other games, the Southwick junior varsity squad defeated Easthampton 8-4.
