Halloween vandalism starts early in city

WESTFIELD – While minor acts vandalism such as toilet paper festooned trees and smashed jack-o-lanterns are not unusual on ‘Cabbage Night’, the night before All Hallows’ Eve, the Halloween season this year has been marked by early, and more serious, vandalism in a neighborhood off Pontoosic Street.
City police noted that three reports were received Friday of vandalism overnight to vehicles parked on Summit and Brenda drives which involved pumpkins.
All three of the victims have reported that the windshields of vehicle parked at the curbs were smashed by pumpkins.
While a Summit Drive resident reported that the damage was done to his car between 5 p.m. and 8 a.m., a visitor at another Summit Drive address was able to narrow the time his windshield was smashed to between 8-9 p.m.
The third victim, who reported her windshield was smashed by a pumpkin while she was visiting family overnight on Brenda Drive, said that the damage occurred some time after she parked her car on the street at 7 p.m.
