History lessons dealt at Southwick

SOUTHWICK – Westfield’s Allyson Morin made history, and Southwick made history of the competition in a celebrated girls’ cross country matchup Tuesday. The Rams defeated the Bombers 21-34, and lost on a tiebreaker to the Belchertown Orioles, 29-30.
Morin finished first, setting a new course record in Southwick with a time of 19:16.
Rams’ Emily McKinney (21:46) and Abby Howe (22:09) were second and third overall, and Nabilah Khan (23:17) was fifth.
RUTLEDGE, CARROLL LEAD SAINTS: Casey Rutledge was the first female cross country player to cross the finish line for St. Mary, seventh overall in 27 minutes, 33 seconds. Sabis defeated the Saints and Mahar by forfeit as the two teams were not able to field a full roster.
In the boys’ race, Sabis beat St. Mary 24-31 and Mahar beat St. Mary, 26-29. Saints’ Billy Carroll finished third (18:53); Luke Dengler and Jake Neilsen were eighth (20:31) and ninth (20:48), respectively.
