WESTFIELD – The Tigers’ boys’ soccer team is apparently beginning to hit its stride.
Philip Lisyanyy hit a beautiful high floater from the top of the box in the 12th minute, Brad Nelson scored at the halfway mark in the second half on assists from Josh Bosh and Vitaliy Borodin, and Kevin Rockwall converted a penalty kick with two minutes remaining in the game to help Westfield Tech down Whip City neighbor St. Mary, 3-1, Thursday at Jachym Field.
“I was very pleased with our efforts all the way around,” Westfield Tech coach Kyle Dulude said. “With a full roster of 30, some new players got experience today and did a fine job.”
“We have a tough road schedule next week and we will need to make sure we are there for each other and stay as a team with the family mentality.”

Gators two goals sink Smith

Gateway scored one goal in each half to defeat visiting Smith Academy. Nick Cooper scored at 17:18 unassisted, and Anthony Aquette knocked home the game-winner off a corner kick with about 12 minutes left in the game. Evan Lee assisted on the final goal.
Smith Academy netted its only score of the game on a penalty kick
Aquette, Joe Coon, and Tom Hyjek were excellent defensively for Gateway (2-1-1).

Dunn-White connection fuels key win
Westfield 2, Belchertown 0

Westfield scored a pair of second-half goals – Aidan Dunn and Dante White connected with each player scoring once and assisting once – and the Bombers pulled out a key home win over mighty Belchertown.
Ian Saltmarsh (8 saves) earned a shutout in net for Westfield.
“It’s a huge win for us,” Westfield coach Andrew Joseph said. “Belchertown is one of the top teams in Western Mass., and after the Ludlow game where we made some mistakes pressuring the ball one-on-one, we corrected that, worked on that … We really pressured the ball very, very well and very intelligently and it resulted in us containing their chances.”
Mitch Weiss impressed defensively for Westfield.
