Lancers skid past Bombers

WESTFIELD – Kaela Mochak (20 points) and Olivia Hadla (19) combined for 39 points, but it wasn’t enough as Westfield fell to Longmeadow in a high school girls basketball game 54-45 Monday night.
It was Westfield’s third straight loss, following a 2-1 start to the season.
Longmeadow nipped Westfield 13-11 in the first quarter and went ahead 27-20 at the half. The Lancers pulled ahead 39-30 after three quarters. The Bombers (2-4) never recovered.
Longmeadow’s Hannah Minardi scored a team-high 18 points. Ilana Kofman had 14 points for the Lancers (5-1)
Westfield will look to rebound Wednesday at home against Amherst. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.

Burke, Daley propel Rams
Southwick 43, McCann Tech 37

Southwick’s backcourt took control of the game as Hannah Burke (10 points) and Maya Daley (8) combined for 18 of the Rams’ points.
In JV action, Southwick nipped McCann 20-18 in a thriller. Sophia Andrade led all scorers with eight points, and knocked down the game-winning 3-pointer. Ashley Parrow had four points.

Sheehan, HCSS down Tigers
Hampden Charter School of Science, 49, Westfield Technical Academy 6

Mady Sheehan scored 12 of her game-high 20 points in the first quarter, fueling a 27-0 run as HCSS cruised on the road. Myra Green also had 10 points, all in the first half.
Ashley Torres, Anna Kapinos, and Leilani Marsh had two apiece for Westfield Tech.

Gators rout Red Raiders
Gateway 39, Commerce 9

Gateway outscored Commerce 22-1 in the first half en route to an easy road victory.
Becca Herman was the star of the game, scoring 13 points for Gateway. Gators’ Megan Wright had seven.

Jordan Kowalski scored the lone Longmeadow goal. The Lancers fell to 3-2.

BOYS ICE HOCKEY
Westfield 6, Wachusett 4

Matt Pelletier led Westfield with two goals. Bombers’ Max Maggipinto (2 assists), Ryan Moorhouse (assist), Alex Beauchemin, and Liam Webster scored one apiece.
Westfield goalie Cam Parent finished with 22 saves.
Westfield improved to 6-2-1.
