WESTFIELD – The majority of the agenda items on tonight’s Sept. 19 City Council meeting are from Mayor Brian P. Sullivan’s office.
Sullivan said that he is sending over all of the ratified contracts, and the Council will vote on any appropriations that weren’t in the budget.
Sullivan had originally put $150,000 in the budget for future salary increases, in anticipation of the contract negotiations. At the Aug. 16 budget review, that amount was reduced to $100,000.
“It’s going to be real close,” Sullivan said earlier this week.
Transfers from the future salary increases account to be voted on at the meeting pursuant to signed and ratified agreements include $309 to Traffic Control, part-time hourly; $1,200 to Fire
Department uniforms and other clothing; $2,000 to the Assessor, full-time salary account; $712 to Building & Public Property, full-time salary account; and $1,312 to Auditor, full-time hourly account.
A transfer of $63,814 to the Police Department is broken down in the following way: $1,046 to the holiday account; $7,950 to the education account; and $54,817 to the full-time, hourly account.
The mayor is also sending over the signed and ratified contract agreement between the Westfield Fire Department Supervisors Association for information only, with no action needed.
Sullivan said there are still some outstanding contracts to be signed and ratified.
Also on tonight’s agenda is a bond order in the amount of $900,000 for a feasibility study for the Franklin Avenue Elementary School. The study was voted for by the School Committee on Sept. 9.
At that meeting, the district’s Chief Financial Officer Ronald R. Rix said the city would be reimbursed 69.5% of the cost for the feasibility study, which will be done in partnership with the Massachusetts School Building Authority, but must show they have ample funding for it. The study is the next step for eligibility with the state for the elementary school building renovation or replacement.
The Council is being asked for immediate consideration on the volunteer appointment of Michael Ingraham as a .member of the Historical Commission.
The reappointment of Peter Cowles as Media Services Specialist for one year is also being considered.
A resolution approving an Intermunicipal Agreement between Westfield and Southwick for Weights and Measures services will also be discussed.
The only committee to report out is the Finance committee, which will meet tonight at 6:15 p.m. prior to the City Council meeting.
