Rescue in Russell

RUSSELL – State police and Russell emergency personnel rescued a West Springfield man Wednesday who had become lost in Russell on Tekoa Mountain.
State police report that the 20-year-old man was initially contacted by cell phone but said that he was not lost and was returning to his vehicle.
However, at 7:05 p.m., the man called 911 to report that he was lost, cold and was covering himself with leaves.
Troopers report that searchers from the Russell barracks responded to Valley View Road and began to search with assistance from Russell police and emergency medical personnel who deployed four wheeled ATVs to search of the man on the rugged terrain.
A computer search for Valley View Road in Russell returned Valley View Avenue which is located in the Woronoco section of the town on the north side of the river adjacent to the Strathmore paper mill there.
State police dispatched a helicopter from the air wing as well as a State Police K-9 team.
