WESTFIELD – Westfield State Owls’ hockey invites fans and friends to join them to Fight Hunger at their regular season finale on Tuesday night at Amelia Park Ice Arena, when the Owls host UMass-Dartmouth in a 7:35 p.m. face off.
The Owls will wear a special orange and blue jersey – the orange representing the primary color of Feeding America and other programs that fight hunger in their communities, and the Owls blue colors.
Westfield State hockey has held a “jersey game” nearly annually, with the first iterations to support breast cancer awareness with pink jerseys, while last year a special First Responders game utilized jerseys with camouflage and gold elements.
“We’ve tried to do something in the community each year,” said Westfield State head coach Bob Miele. “My father passed away last year, and helping to support those in need in the local community was always one of his passions, so we decided to help fight hunger this year.”
Fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable items from the list below that are currently greatest demand at the Common Goods food pantry that services WSU students and community members that may be suffering from food insecurity.

Instant meals (Ramen, Oatmeal, Mac & Cheese etc.)
Canned Tuna/Chicken
Juice boxes/drinks
Quick snacks (trail mix, granola bars, fruit snacks etc.)
Paper towels/napkins/tissues
Spices/condiments (garlic, Adobo, seasoning, hot sauce, mayo etc. )

The Common Goods pantry is located adjacent to the WSU campus at 487 Western Avenue, and is located in the Second Congregational Church.

Common Goods strives to create a welcoming, nonjudgmental, and safe environment. It is an “open shelf” pantry. Participants may choose what kinds and what quantities of items they need, and may visit the food pantry as many times as they wish.
