Owls soar past Panthers

WESTFIELD – Westfield State won 13 of the 16 events as the Owls’ women’s swimming and diving team posted a 160-121 win over Plymouth State on Saturday at the Ely Pool.
Westfield State improves to 3-3 in dual meets this season, while Plymouth drops to 4-2.
Freshman Alex Frazier (Dracut/Dracut, Mass.) and junior Anna Boucher (Suffield/Suffield, Conn.) each won three events for the Owls.
Frazier took home firsts in the 1000 freestyle (11:44.91), the 500 freestyle (5:45.17) and the 200 IM (2:28.40).
Boucher claimed the 50 and 100 backstroke, and the 50 freestyle. Boucher and Frazier were also members of the Owls victorious 200 medley relay team.
Owls freshman Monique Groux (Agawam/Agawam, Mass.) won the 1-meter diving.
Plymouth was led by a solid performance from Julia Mazza (Belchertown/Belchertown, Mass.), who won the 50 and 100 meter butterfly.
Both teams will be idle until after the holiday break.
