Palma wins twice at Hutton Invitational

WESTFIELD – Naloti Palma (Westborough, Mass.) had a big day for the Westfield State Owls women’s track & field team, winning both the shot put and the weight throw at the Jen and Todd Hutton Invitational hosted by Utica College.
Palma won the shot put with a throw of 12.94 meters and the weight throw at 15.46 meters.
After earning MASCAC field athlete of the week, sophomore Ashley Craig (Groton, Mass.) once again took home first place in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 3.35 meters for the win.
Freshman Brianna Deloury (Andover, Mass.) earned top spot in the high jump with a best jump of 1.55 meters.
Sophomore Sabrina Pray won the 60-meter hurdles, finishing in 9.28 seconds.
In the 3000-meter race, Westfield State placed the top five runners, led by senior Megan Erickson (Westbrook, Conn.) at 11:51.78. Junior Shannon Grossman (Harwich, Mass.) took second place, finishing just .09 after Erickson.
The Owls also won both the 4×400-meter relay and the 4 x800-meter relay.
Sophomore Katherine Paltz, sophomore Brooke Mello, junior Nicole Lanoie, and sophomore Lilly Whalen won the 4×400-meter relay with a time of 4:19.08.
Junior Jennifer Asci, sophomore Autumn Brown, freshman Lauren Izabel, and sophomore Katherine Leahy won the 4×800-meter relay with a time of 10:37.64.
The Owls will return to action after the winter break, competing in the Springfield College Open on January 23.

GODETTE LEADS MEN: Senior Travon Godette (Orange, Mass.) had a strong showing for the Westfield State men’s indoor track & field team, winning the high jump at the Jen & Todd Hutton Invitational at Utica College.
Godette won the event with a jump of 2.03 meters, or 6-feet-8.
Sophomore Dereck Stone (Bellingham, Mass.) took first place in the long jump, clearing 6.57 meters for the win.
The Owls also won the 4×400-meter relay with a team of freshman. Matthew Bergin, Dorian Johnson, Estefan Jack, and Jordan Oquendo took first place with a time of 3:28.60.
Senior Mike Skelly (Pepperell, Mass.) placed second in the 3000-meter run, while senior Zack Delisle (Chicopee, Mass.) finished second in the pole vault, clearing 4.5 meters on his third jump.
The Owls will return to action after the winter break, competing in the Springfield College Open on January 23.
