WESTFIELD – Senior center Brian Foley (Worcester, Mass.) scored a season-high 17 points, but the Westfield State men’s basketball team dropped one on the road to Wesleyan, 82-61, Saturday afternoon at Silloway Gym in Middletown, Conn.
With the loss, the Owls drop to 4-7, while Wesleyan improves to 8-1 with the win.
Wesleyan led by five at halftime, but pulled away from Westfield after break with some hot shooting from the outside. The Cardinals drained 9-of-16 three-point attempts in the second half, and sunk 14 three-pointers in the game.
BJ Davis led the charge for the Cardinals, scoring a game-high 26 points, while making 7-of-9 three-pointers. Joseph Kuo (13 points) and Rashid Epps (12 points) also reached double figures for Wesleyan.
Westfield State had nine players score, but only Foley reached double figures for the Owls. Senior Tchuijo Nkamebo (Amherst, Mass.) nearly registered a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.
Wesleyan shot over 50 percent for the game, and outrebounded Westfield State, 38-30.
The Owls will be off until after the new year, when they host Regis College on January 2 at 5:30 p.m. at the Woodward Center.
