Westfield 5 PV, Lightning 0

It may have been Halloween but there were no tricks coming from the Bombers, only treats for their coaches. From the opening face-off the Bombers were first to the puck and sustained it the entire game. It was much like the Bombers first game of the year with the stifling defense and excellent 2 way play of the forwards kept the Lightning out of the attack zone. PV didn’t have a shot on goal until there was only 1:23 left in the first period and the first shot in the second period came with 1:16 left in the period. Even though the Bombers controlled the puck and outshot PV 10-2 in the first the Bombers first goal didn’t occur until 2:54 left in the first. Noah Durfey positioned himself perfectly scoring on a rebound off a shot from Elyse Eidinger. Brandon Powell then scored on a slap shot with 1:42 left in the first after Jakob Marcoulier fed him a nice cross ice pass. Westfield led at the end of the first 2-0. Even though the Bombers out shot PV 13-1 in the second there was no scoring. In the third period Tyler Kutt scored his first goal of the season going coast to coast with Tegan Stannard assisting on the play. Elyse then scored her first goal of the season with Michael Antonellis assisting on a heads up play. JJ Fox then scored a short-handed goal with a second assist coming from Elyse to close the scoring with 2:32 left to play. Sean Rowbotham was once again stellar between the pipes. Westfield is 2-1 on the season thanks to outstanding 2 way play from forwards Tyler Barker, Harrison Klein, Noah Durfey, Ethan Clarke, Gage Sperlonga along with the defense from Nick Paul and Aiden Lakin synchronizing their positions on rushes to keep the pressure on PV Lightning from the drop of the puck in the first to the final buzzer. The final score was Westfield 5 PV 0 with Westfield outshooting the Lightning 30-6.

In the Bombers first of only a handful of home games this season you could have put the copier on copy and hit print. The Bombers played PV Lightning for a second time in a row with the same results. As in the first meeting, the bombers pushed the Lightning out to the perimeter and effectively limited their scoring chances holding PV to 1 shot on goal in the first, 0 in the second and only 5 shots on goal for the entire game. In the first it was Gage Sperlonga opening the scoring at 10:26 in the first period with a snap shot from the slot with JJ Fox assisting on the lone goal in the first. At 6:37 in the second JJ fed Ethan Clarke for a hard shot on net and Tyler Kutt scoring on a rebound from the slot. With 4:11 left in the second Brandon Powell scored his first goal on his way to a hat trick on a put backer closing the scoring in the second period with a 3-0 Bombers lead. The Bombers picked up where they left off as it took only 14 seconds into the third before Brandon pick pocketed the puck in the neutral zone and scored on a wrister, blocker side. PV would then score their lone goal of the game at 11:37 on a rebound. At 8:11 Paul Whalley let one go from the right point that hit the PVL goalie in the chest but Michael Antonellis was on the doorstep for the rebound. Michael notched his first goal of the season. With 1:44 left in the game Noah Durfey fed a saucer pass to JJ who went coast to coast scoring on a fine deke. At 1:04 Brandon notched his hat trick scoring on a backhander after pulling the goalie the opposite way. Fine play by Tyler Barker, Jake Marcoulier, Elyse Eidinger, Harrison Klein, Tegan Stannard and Aiden Lakin and confident goal tending by Sean Rowbotham gives Westfield a record of 3 wins with one loss on the season. Westfield outshot the Lightning 29-5.

Mite 1 Jr. Bombers (7) vs. Amherst (8)
Amelia Park Ice Arena

The Jr. Bombers Mite 1 team went head to head with an evenly matched Amherst team this morning. Goalie Jacob Lacomb held strong in net fending off multiple shots and clearing the crease. It was halfway through the game before Amherst snuck through the tough defensive lines of the Jr. Bombers for the first goal of the game. Westfield then battled back, with back to back goals from Cody Bard who had a nice outside shot past the goalies stick. Amherst battled back with another goal to tie the game, but they hadn’t heard the last of the Jr. Bombers. Liam Dolan used his speed to beat the defenders and put a shot past the goalie. Jacob Millard also landed a hard outside shot past the goalie o give the Jr. Bombers the lead. Amherst then rallied back with 3 unanswered goals. The Jr. Bombers and Amherst then traded goals with Westfield’s Gavin Trzepacz goal keeping us on the board and Cody Bard wearing the hat …. but, unfortunately there wasn’t enough time left on the clock to recapture the lead. Westfield should be proud, it was a strong showing and great defense by Parker Stockseth, Joe Jubb, & Jake Balser. Kudos to the additional offensive line of Sean McMahon, Charlie Wilson, Isaac Durfey and Andrew Galczynski for the constant pressure they applied and multiple shots.

Mite 1 Jr. Bombers (4) vs. Ludlow (7)
Smead Ice Arena

It may have been an early morning game, but the Jr. Bombers were ready for the challenge. Ludlow came out fast and the Jr. Bombers held them to a 0-0 game for the first period of the game. Ludlow then poured it on and took the lead by 3. Westfield rallied with 3 unanswered goals to tie the game by Isaac Durfey, Charlie Wilson and Sean McMahon. Ludlow kept keeping Goalie Jacob Lacomb busy between the pipes blocking shots left and right. Westfield lost some of its momentum and fell behind on the scoreboard but began to make a comeback late in the game with a second goal by Charlie Wilson. Good game by the Jr. Bombers and kudos for the defense of Gavin Trzepacz, Jake Balser, Cody Bard, Isaac Durfey, Liam Dolan, Jacob Millard, Parker Stockseth and Andrew Galczynski to hold this challenging competitor back. – Courtesy of Westfield Youth Hockey Association
