Owls take team title

SPRINGFIELD – The Westfield State University men’s cross country team finished first in the Western New England University Invitational on Saturday.
The Owls took top honors in the 18-team invitational with 37 points to edge Lyndon (Vt.) State (42 points). Clark placed third with 105 points.
Ben Parzich continued to run well for the Owls in his first collegiate season. The 6-7 freshman from Agawam placed second on the 8K campus course with a time of 26:07.81. Senior Kyle Powers of Lyndon State crossed the finish line first in 26:01.38.
Also leading the pack for the Owls were: junior Steve Connolly (6th, 26:40.00), sophomore Mike Skelly (8th, 27:01.34), senior Mike Kelleher (10th, 27:04.84), and freshman Chris Williams (27:05.53).
The Owls are idle next weekend in preparation for the conference championships, which are being held Saturday, Nov. 2, at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham.
