12:34 a.m.: suspicious activity, Meadow’s Market, patrol officer observed a vehicle parked in lot after closing, a man was slouched down, officer spoke with subject and observed the odor of marijuana, officer located a quantity of marijuana exceeding one ounce, officer submitted a criminal complaint to Westfield District Court charging the 25-year-old Russell resident with possession of more than an ounce of a class D substance.
8:55 a.m.: larceny, Mill Street a caller from a social service agency reports medications have been stolen from offices in the agency, the responding officer reports an employee said that medications were stolen from a locked desk some time since April 2 and when a query was circulated other employees found medications to be missing, the case remains under investigation;
12:49 p.m.: animal complaint, East Mountain Road, a caller reports a dog-like animal is in the roadway, the responding animal control officer reports a dead beaver was transported to the Twiss Street transfer station;
3:19 p.m.: unattended death, King Street, a caller reports a 22-year-old man has been found unconscious and not breathing, the college student was found to be deceased and the responding officer reports a representative of the medical examiner’s office arrived and assumed jurisdiction, State Police detectives attached to the District Attorney’s office also responded;
5:19 p.m.: assist citizen, Westfield Police Department, 15 Washington St., a resident came to the station to request that officers serve a relative with a ‘No trespassing’ order, services rendered;
5:36 p.m.: found property, Bates Street, a resident came to the station to report that a bicycle has been left in his back yard for two days and he believes it may have been stolen, the responding officer reports the bike was stored for safe keeping;
9:07 p.m.: trespassing, Mechanic Street, a caller complains of three persons loitering in the area, the responding officer reports the suspects were identified and sent on their ways.
